As a mom and a dietitian, I have scoured the grocery store aisles for the best fitting toddler snacks. Today I wanted to share some of our favorite go-to snacks with you all.
However, before I share my faves, I wanted to share what I am looking for in a snack. Please know that my list is not an exhaustive list, I just want you to be able to navigate the snack aisle with what will work best for your toddler.
When I’m looking for a snack for my kids here are the three main things trying to find:
- Protein or fat to help the snack have filling power for your busy toddler. Look for something that has a higher amount of protein or fat. Think more than 3-4 grams.
- Fiber to help with normal digestion and keeping your kid satisfied. You want a higher amount of fiber, so think at least 2 grams.
- Added sugar. Now, I’m not fundamentally against giving your toddler sugar, but they have small stomachs and picking snacks with lots of added sugar can fill them up before they eat other nutrient dense foods. So ideally, keep this number on the lower end, I try to find something with less than 5 grams of added sugar.
There are a few quick tips on what to look for when choosing your toddler’s snack. Now it’s time for me to share some of my boys’ favorite snacks!
*a quick disclaimer* Toddlers can be finicky, so please don’t feel guilt, shame, or any negative emotion if your toddler won’t eat what I’m sharing with you. This is to serve solely as inspiration for you.
